How to get the app

LactApp provides information about many aspects of breastfeeding, from the basics to weaning. It includes topics like mixed feeding, handling and storage of breastmilk, expressing milk, and breastfeeding and alcohol. The app has a chat function, through which you can send questions and tracking logs of baby’s feeding, weight and poos.

PROS CONS

Beautiful appearance.

 Very thorough in detail.

✔ Simple topics and pathways to topics.

Great blogs – very topical, making for good reading.

Relevant to New Zealanders.

Signing in via the Facebook button appears troublesome.

✘ May have too many options as you need to click through a lot to get where you may want to go. This can be annoying or possibly hard if the mother is not sure in the first place.

Currently only available in English and Spanish but the developer has announced they are looking to translate into other languages.

Comments: LactApp is for breastfeeding mothers, or anyone involved in the journey of breastfeeding, who may have queries or be looking for help. Users can access accurate information in an easy way at any time of day. Non-anecdotal information is always amazing. Further, it’s father friendly! There are many topics that fathers may be curious about. Overall, I think the app is very thorough and user friendly. A few little errors, eg, “1th” child not “1st” . I absolutely love the blogs! They are so topical and relevant.
Safety concerns: None.
New Zealand relevance: Yes, it is relevant to a New Zealand audience.
