The General Anxiety Disorder 7-item scale (GAD-7) is one of the tools used to screen for anxiety or to measure its severity. This is not intended to provide a diagnosis – only trained health professionals should do this.
Note: your responses to this questionnaire are anonymous. Your scores are not recorded by Health Navigator and we do not capture any information that can identify you.

How to interpret your GAD-7 score
- Each question response category of ‘not at all’, ‘several days’, ‘more than half the days’ and ‘nearly every day’ is assigned a score of 0, 1, 2 and 3 respectively.
- The total score is calculated by adding together the individual scores for the 7 questions.
- The final scores of 5, 10 and 15 are the cut-off points for mild, moderate and severe anxiety, respectively.
- Please note that while great care has been taken with the development of this self-test, it is not intended to be a substitute for professional clinical advice. The result is indicative only. If you have scored above the threshold on this scale, see your doctor or a mental health practitioner, such as a counsellor, psychotherapist or psychologist.
