There are localised outbreaks of mumps across the Auckland region, with clusters of cases in Howick, Pakuranga, Auckland Central and Ponsonby.
Those affected include instructors working in gyms across Auckland.
Close contacts of people who develop mumps are advised to be vaccinated with the measles mumps rubella (MMR) vaccine even if they over 30 years.
Non-immune close contacts who are children, students and those working in health or education need to be quarantined. Other close contacts should watch for symptoms and get vaccinated if possible. They can continue life as normal unless they develop symptoms.
