Sun safety apps

Protecting yourself from the sun's damaging ultraviolet (UV) light is one of the most important ways to prevent skin cancer. UV light can still harm you even if it isn’t sunny and warm outside - during both winter and summer. There are a number of apps that encourage sun safety.

Mobile apps can encourage sun safety by providing advice on sun protection practices and the risk of sunburn, while you're out and about. They can also provide sun protection alerts when UV levels are 3 or higher, as this is when UV radiation is most damaging. Knowing when your skin is most at risk for sun damage can help you to avoid being outdoors during this time, or use extra sun protection — slip on a shirt, slop on some sunscreen, slap on a hat, wrap on sunshades and stay in the shade.
