What does the app do?
This New Zealand based app provides useful tips and advice to support parents through various stages of their child's development. The app is divided into 7 sections — newborns, infants, crawlers, toddlers, 2 year olds, preschoolers and the primary years covering various topics relevant to each growth stage such as eating, sleeping, learning, parenting, health, education and physical activity. The app comprises a series of videos with information from experts and parenting experiences from New Zealand celebrities. The app also has a tips section, for example tips for newborns, tips for infants, etc which comprises a summary of tips appropriate for that age group. ✘ Whilst some content is free to view, users would need to register using either their email or Facebook account to unlock content, including being able to access added features such as the Well Child/Tamariki Ora reminders.
✘ When registering, you would need to provide your child’s name, date of birth and gender. If you would like to avoid this, you can select ‘I don’t have a child but want to sign up’.
✘ The app lacks adequate representation of New Zealand’s diverse cultures.

With over ten thousand downloads, this is no doubt already a popular app. The app has dedicated sections for parents/users covering up to 7 stages of development . Users can receive helpful reminders about their Well Child/Tamariki Ora visits if you register. There is a diverse range of everyday parents, celebrities and professionals who are featured in the videos. This is a great way of conveying important parenting, developmental, health and educational messages relevant to each stage from a wide range of perspectives. Each video clip is no longer than 3 minutes making information easy to understand compared to reading long texts. This app is most useful for parents but has added benefits for those who may be studying nursing, health promotion, public health, early childhood teaching and social work. The use of short videos allows parents/users to absorb important information compared to reading large amounts of text."
