Pain - Chronic Pain
| Course Name: | Pain Programmes |
| Brief Description | A range of pain clinics, courses and support are available in most areas for anyone living with chronic pain. Chronic pain is a very common problem, yet often people feel isolated and discouraged by lack of information, support or poorly controlled pain. Talk with your family doctor, look for local groups that can help, read the Pain Toolkit booklet and take action!
A popular pain programme is now available in the Auckland region. This is based on the Stanford Programme and specifically for people with chronic pain. (Weekly sessions of 2.5 hours for 6 weeks) |

Parkinson's Disease
| Course Name: | Living Well with Parkinson's Disease |
| Brief Description | A 6 week education series aiming to improve self management skills for people recently diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease
Developed by local physiotherapists and the university, this is a new programme which is run twice yearly (at this stage). Each session is 2 hours long and over the 6 weeks will cover the knowledge and skills needed to manage life with Parkinson’s disease. The cost is $25 for the 6 weeks but you are required to join the society ($33 per year) to attend. In two hours a week for six consecutive weeks, this course will cover everything you and your spouse/family need to know about managing life with Parkinson's. Topics include: effects of Parkinson's Disease; what this diagnosis means for you, your family and your future; how to get the most out of your doctor and the health system; exercise and nutrition; speech and communication; dealing with fatigue and stress; understanding and managing medications how to manage employment and/or retirement plans.
